Visit a treasure trove of North Eastern Namibia, with many different beautiful landscapes, the majestic Okavango river, Nkasa Rupura, many species of bird life, herds of Elephant, as well as an array of endangered species.
The Khaudum to Mamili: Trans Caprivi Tour is focussed on a unique part of North Eastern Namibia. At first glance the area looks fairly inaccessible and inconspicuous but on closer examination one realises it is a treasure trove of many different beautiful landscapes, rivers such as the Okavango, Nkasa Rupura, Namibia’s largest wetland, many species of bird life, herds of Elephant, endangered species such as Roan antelope, red letchwe, the African Wild Dog, Cape Buffalo and many more. During this tour we follow the roads lesser travelled in the Caprivi, searching for the hidden gems of Namibia.

The Team
Your tour leader is an experienced nature conservationist and adventure guide. He will be always in radio contact with you and impart a wealth of biological, cultural, historic, and four-wheel drive knowledge.

Though this self-drive adventure can get “exciting” and is sometimes not a “walk in the park”, we will always practice safe off-road driving techniques and should you experience any difficulty, the Bhejane crew have the “know-how” and recovery equipment to assist with off-road problems.
Some of our overnight stops will be rustic and unusual, but you will always nevertheless be safe, the crew will spare no effort to make you comfortable, provide you with good wholesome food and, most importantly, see that you have a good time.

About the Khaudum to mamiii (Trans Caprivi)
Adventure Itinerary
Day 1
The group will meet 125Km northeast of Grootfontein at the Grashoek Vet Gate around 2pm. Once our group has gathered at the meeting point, we will do a quick radio check before proceeding to our first night’s campsite around 12km from there along jeep track. We will spend our first night at a Bushman Community. As soon as we have settled in, we will enjoy a walk with a local bushman guide who will introduce as to all the different plants and insect life in the area, so we can see and experience the way they live and survive in the bush.
The campsite is in a beautiful area surrounded by Manketti trees, facilities are rustic with a long drop toilet and bucket showers. In the evening, whilst being treated to our first tasty dinner from the bush kitchen, your tour guide will elaborate on what lies ahead over the next few days.
Day 2
After an early breakfast we will have a safety briefing to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the driving challenges that lies ahead. Then it’s time to begin our incredible journey, we will start by making our way in an easterly direction, towards Tsumkwe. Here we will have a final opportunity to fuel up our vehicles for the next 3 days. We will then proceed onto a sand track towards Sikereti, our second night’s camp in the Khaudum National Park, stopping for lunch along the way at a beautiful Baobab tree used by the Dorsland trekker as a hunting camp. Once we enter Khaudum National Park, we have to be on the lookout for the wildlife that could be lurking anywhere in this very remote wilderness of the Northeastern corner of Namibia.
Our camp for the night Sikereti, even though it is rustic, has hot donkie showers and flush toilets. There are no fences around the camp so animals can move around freely here, and we are bound to hear our first African night sounds. The Bhejane crew will have the camp setup by the time we arrive and will do everything they can to ensure your comfort and needs are met.
Day 3
An early start to the day ensures we get out into the park as early as possible to view as many of the animals as we can before the midday day heat arrives. We slowly make our way in a North-easterly direction to Khaudum main camp, the park has around 12 artificial waterholes and 2 natural fountains and they can all be reached by vehicle as 2 track roads interlink the park in its entirety. Most of the watering holes have hides, from which game can be viewed safely and where we can have a nice lunch break .
After a great day of driving the sand tracks of the Khaudum we reach our wonderful campsite in the late afternoon. The campsite facilities are excellent, with lovely hot showers and revamped ablutions. We get an opportunity to enjoy a brilliant sundowner while looking out over the Khaudum Omarumba, seeing the animal herds grazing and listening to the birdlife.
Day 4
We will be spending another night at Khaudum camp, enjoying game drives from water hole to water hole during the morning and late afternoon and relaxing in the magnificent campsite during the day. We will be on the lookout for big herds of Elephant, Roan, Wildebeeste, Oryx and other wildlife. The Khaudum is also home to a big leopard population and endangered species such as African Wild Dog
Day 5
This morning we have an early start to leave Khaudum National Park with its wildlife and soft sand tracks behind us, heading in a North Easterly direction towards the Okavango River where we will spend the night on the banks of the river at another great campsite called Mobola- named after the Mobola plum tree in the campsite.
On our arrival at camp, the Bhejane team will have the tents set up and be ready preparing another awesome dinner. We have a chance to relive the last few days in the Khaudum on their lovely island bar while watching the sunset over the Okavango River. The camp site for the night will have toilets and shower facilities utilising solar panels.
Day 6
After Breakfast we will be making our way to Divindu, around 30km toward the main Caprivi highway. We can refuel our vehicles and replenish our snacks and beverages at the local store, after which we will make our way over the Okavango River and head towards the Kwando River.
We enter Bwabwata National Park in the late morning, stopping at the old Fort Doppies campsite for lunch, after which we have will a leisurely game drive in the park which is located on the westerly side of the Kwando River. We exit the park later in the day and head to our campsite approximately 12 km South of Kongola.
Our camp site for the next three nights is situated in close proximity to a major elephant pathway for animals crossing the Kwando River and lies on the boundary of the Ngonga wildlife corridor with regular sightings of game coming to drink from the forest area outside the park, Mukolo Camp. The campsite is located on the banks of the Kwando River with toilets and shower facilities.
Day 7
After a hearty breakfast we will set out on what is one of the highlights of our tour, a 2-hour walking tour in the area surrounding the campsite. Walking is perhaps the ultimate way to connect with Africa and gives you the opportunity to not only view wildlife but also the surrounding villages, giving clients the chance to meet and engage with the local people who are the guardians of the land and its resources.
We will have the rest of the day at leisure around the campsite, giving us the opportunity to sort out our vehicle’s and catch up on some reading.
Day 8
After a relaxed day in camp the previous day, we are up early the next morning to go for a morning game drive in Bwabwata national park, we get back to camp in time for a lovely brunch prepared by our Behjane crew. After a nice afternoon of relaxation, we have yet another highlight install, a sundown boat cruise on the Kwando River with its abundant birdlife. The river lists lesser jacana, black coucal, wattled crane and 2 species of cisticolas amongst its specials. The park also offers racket tailed roller, western banded snake eagle, Shelley’s sunbird and Arnott’s chat amongst others.
Day 9
Sadly, after three great nights at Mukolo camp, we leave the Kwando River behind and continue to our next destination, Nkasa Rupura National Park, where we will spend our final two nights. We will start the day with a game drive in Mudumu National Park, continuing in a southerly direction towards the Linyanti swamps area. The community campsite we are staying at for the next two nights will have toilets and shower facilities – rustic, but we will ensure your comfort and needs are met as best we can.
Day 10
We make an early start after coffee and rusks to enjoy the adventure that awaits us in Nkasa Rupura National Park. Lush marshes, dense savannah and high river reeds mean that travelling through the area is a dream for 4×4 enthusiasts. During the dry winter months, large herds of elephant congregate on Nkasa and Rupara islands. But for much of the year, the park is awash with floodwater. Game drives go through the edge of deep pools and close to rivers where crocodiles lie in wait. Nearby buffalo or elephant may be crossing the river. For anyone who relishes the adventures of raw, real Africa, Nkasa Rupara National Park is the place to go.
By the time we return from our afternoon game drive and sundowners, the fire is burning, and we are welcomed by the Bhejane crew with a lovely last dinner around the camp fire and great friends.
Day 11
Sadly, after breakfast we have to say our goodbyes after a memorable trip together, that is until your next Behjane 4×4 Adventure experience.
